She is sent away by her family to remonstrate other family in Santa Clara. The whole point of this ride was to drag Loretta away from Billy, her brother in law did non motivation her getting married, instead he wanted her to stay groundwork and help her sister. When she goes away the new couple where she is staying, the lady hitting a fellow that she knows and she immediately want him to consider her for his bride. The wander seems to take place in early or late 1800s where women married young, To describe Loretta, she is young, innocent, timid. She appears that she does not know more than slightly life or men. She describes different sensations that she is feeling in her stay in Santa Clara, something totally different than what she is used to. Ned comes all over to meet her, but he is not i mpressed in addition much with her, only that he notices that she is a beautiful girl. Loretta is in constant worrying about her sister and about Billy, her boyfriend. She knows that he is suffering from the separation and his letter really direction her out.
